Something for Others Fund

Turning service into action—today and for the future

Established in 2008 by a local couple who wish to remain anonymous, the Something for Others Fund is a Donor Advised Fund dedicated to lifting up community service, service learning, and service-driven leadership. Created as a birthday gift from a wife to her husband—both passionate about helping others—the fund encourages projects that build social responsibility, generosity, critical thinking, and strong, ethical leadership.

What the fund supports

Annual grants focus on initiatives that:

• Engage people—especially youth and young adults—in meaningful community service

• Advance service learning in schools and youth organizations

• Develop service-driven leadership through trainings, projects, or community initiatives

(Grants are made to eligible 501(c)(3) organizations, schools, and programs; student-led projects are supported through an eligible organization.)

How it works

As a Donor Advised Fund, the founders recommend charitable distributions in consultation with the Morton Community Foundation. Recommendations are submitted to our local Board for approval, and MCF handles the grantmaking and stewardship. This structure keeps the donors closely involved while ensuring grants are made in alignment with IRS rules and community needs.

Why it matters

Service shapes character and strengthens communities. By investing in service experiences and leadership development—especially for young people—this fund helps cultivate the next generation of neighbors who notice needs, step in, and lead with compassion.
