Our Mission Statement...

The Mission of the Morton Community Foundation is to improve the quality of life for Morton area residents, now and for generations to come.

We do this by…

  • Building community endowment.

  • Investing in our community through strategic grant making.

  • Turning donors' charitable dreams into permanent legacies.

  • Providing leadership to identify and address changing community needs.

An easy way to explain how we deliver on that mission is through 3 simple words…Gather, Grow, and Grant. We GATHER tax deductible gifts from donors who have a passion for some charitable organization(s), charitable cause(s), or charitable field(s) of interest. We GROW those gifts through prudent investing. We then distribute GRANTs from the proceeds of those investments.

  • The MCF also unites our community around projects that are important to residents and fulfilling its mission. The MCF can serve as the collection point, or “gatherer” of donations by people who wish to fund a need in the community or gathering space, like the Idlewood Arts Pavilion, the Downtown Memorial Plaza, Hannah’s Reading Garden, the Morton Public Pool, and the MYBA Baseball Stadium at Westwood Park.

  • Donations can be made by mailing a check, made out to MCF, to 135 S First Ave., Morton, IL. 61550. Write the name of the fund you’re supporting in the Memo line. Or, if you’d like to support multiple funds with one check, include a note with the dollar amount breakdown for each fund.

We GROW those gifts through prudent investing.

  • The MCF, like all community foundations, exists primarily to help donors establish Endowments…a donation of money or property, which uses the resulting investment income for a specific purpose. ... Endowments are designed to keep the principal amount intact while using the investment income for charitable efforts.

  • The MCF’s endowed assets are pooled for investment purposes with the Community Foundation of Central IL in Peoria. CLICK HERE to review CFCI’s Investment Policy and Investment Returns information.

  • Multiple layers of oversight.

    • The Morton Community Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees who exercise authority that is granted by federal and state governments as well as the foundation 's community constituents. It also provides accountability for the foundation's performance by protecting the public's interest.

    • In addition, the MCF has a Finance Committee tasked with the specific responsibilities of reviewing financial information and investment results, making recommendations to the full MCF Board regarding sustainability of the organization, and protecting the endowment principal.

    • The Community Foundation of Central IL Board of Trustees and Finance Committee are also monitoring the investment pool with the same responsibilities as the MCF.

We then distribute GRANTs from the proceeds of those investments.

  • Each endowment fund generates grants to be used specifically for the purpose(s) defined by its fund agreement. Some of the funds require a grant application process, while other funds give the MCF authority to send grant funds each year to specified agencies for specific purposes.

  • MCF grants and scholarships are distributed primarily to Morton area residents, non-profits and charitable equivalent organizations, like schools, parks, libraries, etc.

  • Each Spring, non-profits and other charitable equivalent organizations, can apply for grants during our Community Grant Cycle. CLICK HERE for more information.
