The MHS Band Endowment Fund
This fund was started in July of 2010 by the Morton High School Band Parents organization. The purpose of the Fund is to make annual distributions to the Band Boosters to assist in supporting the MHS instrumental band programs, by supporting the purchase of music, musical instruments and other equipment; defraying the costs of participating in parades, concerts and/or music competition; providing scholarships for worthy band members who are unable to fund their participation in band activities; and other instrumental band activities.
A designated endowment fund was set up in 2010 at the Morton Community Foundation (MCF) by the Morton High School Band Parents (Band Boosters). The purpose of the fund is to supplement the good work already being done by the Band Boosters to support the needs of the Morton High School marching and concert bands.
A fundraising car wash to obtain funds to open this account at the MCF for the Band Boosters was hosted by JH Car Wash in summer 2010, and netted a little over $2,600 for the Morton Band Boosters endowment fund. Band members and parents battled rainy skies until around noon. Then, the skies brightened, the sun came out and cars began rolling in to be washed by the approximately 40 band members who took shifts washing cars.
JH Car Wash owner, Tom Harper, donated 3 wash bays and all the tokens for washing the cars, plus tokens for vacuuming out the cars, if desired. Band members asked customers to make a donation of any amount in return for washing their car. JH Car wash also matched the first $1,000 in donations received. All told, the band received a little over $2,600 for the day.
Endowed gifts provide a gift that lasts forever. Grants made in the name of the MHS Band Endowment Fund will continue beyond our lifetimes. Since this fund is now open, anyone in the community, band parents, marching band alumni, etc., can make a contribution to this fund of any amount.
