Jeff King – Blessed Sacrament Athletic Department Endowment Fund
This Designated Fund was started in January of 2025 by an anonymous donor couple. The purpose of the Fund is to support Blessed Sacrament School's athletic department by helping cover expenses and creating opportunities for students to participate in school-approved sports and extracurricular activities, supervised by the athletic director and board. This includes, but is not limited to, funding uniforms, equipment, concession items, programs, referee fees, IESA dues, tournament fees, awards, and other reasonable costs directly tied to the athletic department’s mission and this fund.
The Jeff King - Blessed Sacrament Athletic Department Fund was established by anonymous donors to recognize the selfless effort and dedication of longtime volunteer BSS athletic director Jeff King and to provide a perpetual source of funds to the Blessed Sacrament athletic department which serves scores of student-athletes every school year who participate in various sports and activities.
The BSS athletic department sponsors approximately 10 sports and activities each year, including boys and girls basketball, cross country and track, baseball, cheerleading, volleyball, scholastic bowl, etc. All of these activities require volunteer coaches, equipment, referees, instruction and guidance, all overseen by an athletic director. The expenses involved to run this program can be significant.
Jeff King (with the assistance and support of his wife, Mickey) joined the athletic board in 2013, organizing, among other duties, the Morton Knights of Columbus 8th Grade Boys Basketball tournament. In 2018, upon retirement from State Farm, Jeff answered the call to lead the department as its athletic director and has spent countless hours making sure the multitude of students participating in grade school athletics receive a fulfilling and positive experience.
Jeff’s inclusive and sportsmanlike personality has made sure the ‘the experience’ counts more than the actual result on the field or court. Any first-time visitor to an athletic event can instantly see and feel the commitment Jeff has made for fun and fair competition in a healthy environment. For all he has done and continues to do, this endowed Fund has been established in his honor.
Jeff and Mickey joined Blessed Sacrament in 1991. Their children Michael, Molly, and Patrick all attended and graduated from Blessed Sacrament School.
As a permanent endowment held at the Morton Community Foundation, this fund allows anyone who wishes to come together in support of this cause to contribute, enabling it to grow and ultimately create larger grants over time in order to benefit the Athletic Department at Blessed Sacrament School.
