On Saturday, November 5, 2016, 5:30pm - 10:00pm...

...the Morton Community Foundation presented its annual fall fundraising event, Boots and Bling (formerly Oktoberfest).  Over the years, our fall fundraisers have been an overwhelming success, and are a highly anticipated event for our community.  Through the generosity of our Sponsors, Underwriters, Donors, and Attendees, the Foundation hopes to raise around $25,000 to support its operations. This funding enables us to carry on our mission to receive, invest and distribute funds for the benefit of Morton-area residents, and to help them achieve their philanthropic goals.

This past fiscal year, the MCF presented grants and scholarships totaling over $57,000 during our competitive grant cycle, and served as the conduit for donors, making additional gifts from pass-through funds and donor advised funds totaling over $180,000… a valuable total impact on charities and organizations on behalf of Morton area residents.  Since our inception in the year 2000, grant distributions have exceeded $2.25 Million to area non-profits, schools, parks, and libraries..

You're Going to Love the Entertainment!

Our entertainment for Boots and Bling is really going to be special.  In keeping with our theme, we had hoped to find a group that could play more than one genre of music.  We wanted musicians who were skilled enough to play Bluegrass, Swing, Jazz, Classical, and more.  We weren't aware of a band in the area, but we did find 3 extremely talented musicians, who are coming together for a special performance of musical style from Boots to Bling.  They call themselves String Swing.

Tyler jackson

Tyler Jackson is a true musical talent.  He has worked as a professional musician on many instruments including tenor banjo, mandolin, and upright bass. He is perhaps best known for being the bassist for country music legend Ray Price from 2006-2013.

When Jackson was just eight years old, he began singing in a nationally known touring boys choir. Although he enjoyed singing, after a few years he was ready to take his musical gift and focus it in a different direction. At the age of eleven he began studying multiple stringed instruments under the tutelage of Buddy Griffin, who taught him ukulele, tenor banjo, and electric bass. He quickly gained fame as a virtuosic tenor banjoist which allowed him to appear on numerous recordings and perform around the country on the instrument.

Tyler and his wife Kristin, and their brand new baby, currently reside in Boerne Texas.

Grant Flick

Grant Flick, of Bowling Green, Ohio, has been playing and performing for the past seven years on many instruments including violin, mandolin, and tenor guitar. Primarily, his interests are jazz/swing, bluegrass, and new acoustic music. He has received numerous musical awards including the 2013 Daniel Pearl Memorial Violin, and he was a 2015 finalist in the Walnut Valley Festival Fiddle Competition in Winfield, Kansas. He is a two time participant (2015 and 2016) of the Acoustic Music Seminar held at the Savannah Music Festival in Savannah, Georgia. He has performed at the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, Tenor Guitar Gathering, Indiana Fiddler’s Gathering, and many other festivals.

Tim Brickner

For more than two decades Tim Brickner has been backing up some of the Midwest’s finest musicians on upright and electric bass. He currently is on tour with Matthew Curry and plays concerts and festivals regularly across the United States and abroad. Tim lives in Peoria, Illinois, with his wife Jeanette. When he is not on the road, he can be seen playing with some of the area’s best talent, including David Hoffman and Joe Metzka.
