THE BERNICE L. OBERLANDER / LYNNE R. WALTERS LIBRARY CHILDREN'S SUMMER READING FUND

As the Morton Public Library celebrated the 30th Anniversary of their current library facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony, Tuesday, March 27, 4:30pm... the Morton Community Foundation's Executive Director, Scott Witzig, announced the establishment of the new Bernice L. Oberlander/Lynne R. Walters Library Children's Summer Reading Endowment Fund.

The fund was established with a generous donation from Mr. and Mrs. Dan & Lynne Walters. Lynne's mother, Bernice Oberlander, was a member of the Library Board for 32 years, and served as President for 28 of those years.

Fifty years ago, Lynne Walters placed stickers on poster board in hopes of generating interest in a summer reading program at Morton Public Library. 

A Junior High student at the time, Lynne was interested in giving youngsters a goal to obtain during the school-free summer days.
