Remembering a life devoted to Education

The Wayne L. Sampson Memorial Educator's Scholarship Fund

The Wayne L. Sampson Memorial Educator’s Scholarship will be awarded annually beginning in 2010.  It has been established by his wife, Janice, and their two children, Sally Sampson Craft and Brian Sampson.  Both Sally and Brian were educated in the Morton school system.  The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior at Morton High School or prior graduate of MHS whose goal is to enter the field of education.  A faculty and administrative committee will select the recipient of the award based on academic ability, financial need, moral character, leadership and participation in school and community activities.

A testimony from Mrs. Jan Sampson

After my husband, Wayne, passed away two years ago...

...our family wanted to honor his memory in some way that would also help others.  He had devoted his entire career to public education as a teacher, administrator, school board member and finally, as Executive Director of the IL Association of School Boards.  He believed that all students should receive an education that would provide the foundation for lifelong learning.  We felt that a scholarship fund was the ideal way to not only honor his commitment to public education but to assist young people who have the desire to be the kind of educators who make a difference.
