The Morton Community Foundation (MCF) is a vehicle through which individuals, companies, foundations, and charitable organizations are able to make gifts and bequests to benefit the community. Income from these gifts, made through the MCF, is used to address a broad spectrum of needs in the community and to set up or add to funds from which grants are made. The MCF is both flexible and permanent in nature, thus assuring donors that the spirit of their gifts will endure.
Thus, the Morton Community Foundation's Board of Trustees is committed to building a strong endowment, guaranteeing a solid future for both the MCF and our community.
The Morton Community Foundation provides numerous benefits to the donor, including:
- YOUR GIFT WILL KEEP GIVING.
The fund that receives your contribution will continue to benefit the community now and in the future.
- CONTRIBUTIONS MAY EASE YOUR TAX BURDEN.
Contributions made to the Morton Community Foundation qualify for maximum deductibility for income, gift, and estate tax purposes. Those who create donor advised funds, receive a tax credit in the year that the gift is given and then may suggest distributions from the fund over a longer period of time.
- ALL CONTRIBUTIONS ARE PROFESSIONALLY MANAGED.
The Morton Community Foundation is affiliated with the Community Foundation of Central Illinois (CF of CI), Peoria for investment management and fund reporting. Because funds in the MCF are pooled for investment purposes, donors have the advantage of a diverse investment mix and reduced risk. Members of the CF of CI Investment Committee are selected for their integrity, competence, and knowledge.
- THE MCF IS PUBLICLY ACCOUNTABLE.
Annual reporting and filing of tax returns, public disclosure of all grant activities, and careful selection of the Board of Trustees assures continued use of funds in the public interest.
- GRANTS COULD BE MADE IN YOUR NAME.
You may choose any name you wish for your fund - your own or that of a family, a friend, or an organization. Such funds are open-ended and may be increased at any time by additional gifts. Grants to charitable organizations from your fund will always be recorded in the name of the fund, a lasting symbol of your caring.
- YOUR GIFT MAY BE DESIGNATED FOR A SPECIFIC PURPOSE.
If you establish your own fund, you may specify its purpose or purposes. You may also specify whether income only or both principal and income is to be spent. Many donors, however, place no restrictions on how the income of their funds is to be used, and leave the decision to the MCF?s Board of Trustees.
- YOUR GIFT CAN KEEP PACE WITH CHANGING TIMES.
If the intended purposes of your gift become obsolete, the MCF?s authority to amend provisions of your fund will ensure that the fund will continue to meet future needs of the community.
